In 2011, the Yachtclub Possenhofen on Lake Starnberg debuted as host for the 45-class national cruisers Deutschland Cup. On Friday, August 12, 2011, a total of 15 regatta yachts will race each other. Six races are scheduled to take place over the whole weekend. Lovingly restored old-timers raced fresh-off-the-wharf yachts, and it was exciting to see which of the homely cruisers would prove to have the edge.

The regatta started on Friday, August 12, at 9.30 a.m. After the skipper meeting presided over by tournament organizer Philipp Ocker, the contestants were off to the first race. At five valid races or more, the worst placement was discarded. Teams could win prizes in the final scoring as well as the classic scoring. Also, the Deutschland Cup, Tanimara Preis and 45er Classic Preis challenge trophies were awarded. The 15 participating boats hailed from Lake Starnberg, Lake Ammer and Lake Constance. A 45-class national cruiser is a sailing boat with a sail area of 45m², a length of 10.50m and a draft of 1.2m. With the proper wind conditions, the regatta was going to be a nail-biter even for those watching from the shore. A highlight of the Deutschland Cup was the raffle for a unique timepiece made and provided by Leinfelder Uhren München. As main sponsor of the event, Leinfelder gave out a Meridian 2011, specially made for this event. Every participant also received a small souvenir courtesy of the Glas wharf and Marinepool.
